Keep up-to-date with what we've been up to across the Black Country
20th January 2025
At Black Country Foodbank we recognise that food poverty is a huge issue which we can’t tackle alone. Collaboration is key and we are fortunate to work with 56 partner projects across the Black Country, supporting them by donating food and toiletries and providing emergency parcels. Our partner projects help by reaching vulnerable people and families who may not be able to access a Foodbank or who have specific cultural needs.
During Christmas 2024, we were able to support 23 community groups and Foodbanks to purchase food items for Christmas meals, buffets, and hampers. Over 1500 local people and families, experiencing financial hardship were able to benefit from the vast array of projects.
Here is a snapshot of some of the projects we helped to fund and the difference they made.
Individuals and families were blessed with a variety of Christmas food hampers. Hampers varied from essential items, frozen Christmas dinner bundles, Caribbean food items, chocolate Christmas Eve hampers and much more.
The Connect Project said:
“Families told us that due to the high cost of living, they couldn’t afford to buy the nice things for their children and by having the chocolate hamper, they were able to spend their money on food items for their Christmas dinner.”
Paul received a frozen food hamper from Just Straight Talk and said:
“I am very grateful for the hamper of food. I will save this for Christmas day and have something to look forward to.”
Some wonderful free events took place, ranging from Christmas meals, family activities and Christmas parties. The funding we provided to organisations helped to cover the cost of the food and selection boxes, meaning vulnerable people and families did not have to go without.
The Welcome Group hosted a Christmas party and buffet for 150 refugees and asylum seekers. They said:
“This meal demonstrated to our refugee and asylum seeker friends that people care about them and wanted to provide them with a satisfying Christmas party meal. We showed them that they are welcomed, loved and special.”
The Good Shepherd in Wolverhampton provided a Christmas lunch and brunch for people who are street homeless, reaching over 200 individuals. One man said:
“It’s so heart-warming that people care about me. My Christmas meal was the tastiest thing I have ever eaten, thank you.”
We’re thankful to be able to support the work of our foodbanks and wider community projects, who worked really hard to ensure that Christmas was made a little easier for the people they support. We would like to say thank you and a big well done to all the organisations who were involved.
